The United Road Transport Union (URTU) is a trade union in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1890 and has a membership of over 14,000. The URTU represents workers throughout the UK Logistics Sector involved in Warehousing, Driving and general distribution.
The URTU was first registered as the United Carters Association, and was subsequently named the United Carters Association of England, the United Carters and Motormen’s Association of England, and the United Road Transport Workers Association of England before assuming its current name in 1964.
The URTU is affiliated with the TUC, ETUC and TUCG. Robert Monks is the present General Secretary and Phil Brown is President.
The Union Learning Fund Project is headed up by Graham Cooper, the ULF National Project Manager, working with Mags McGuire, Barry Marks and Barry Carter as Project workers
URTU was also successful in obtaining funds from the Union Modernisation Fund in order to offer Officer Training, create a new website and vastly improve the standard of IT used in the Union. This will help URTU to stand alongside other larger Unions on a much more level playing field. The ULF Project is now progressing bids in Wales and Scotland.
