United Macedonia Salute - Symbolism of The Salute

Symbolism of The Salute

The meaning of this salute is, as said by Macedonians, the two fingers in a circle symbolize the letter 'O', which is the first letter of the Macedonian word 'Обединета' (Obedineta) meaning 'United' in Macedonian referring to a United Macedonia.

The other three fingers symbolize the three regions of Macedonia; Vardar Macedonia, Aegean Macedonia and Pirin Macedonia. The five fingers as a whole resemble the Vergina Sun, which was the flag of the Republic of Macedonia from 1992 to 1995.

Famous quotes containing the words symbolism of, symbolism and/or salute:

...I remembered the rose bush that had reached a thorny branch out through the ragged fence, and caught my dress, detaining me when I would have passed on. And again the symbolism of it all came over me. These memories and visions of the poor—they were the clutch of the thorns. Social workers have all felt it. It holds them to their work, because the thorns curve backward, and one cannot pull away.
    Albion Fellows Bacon (1865–1933)

There is only one thing that a man really wants to do, all his life; and that is, to find his way to his God, his Morning Star, salute his fellow man, and enjoy the woman who has come the long way with him.
