Unicameral Youth Conference

The Unicameral Youth Conference was established in 2001, by members of the Nebraska Legislature Clerk's office. It was created to enable high school students to learn about the legislative process and how a bill becomes law. The 2007 session began on June 11 with the election of committee chairpersons and the Speaker of the Legislature.

During the 2007 session of the Unicameral Youth Conference in Lincoln at the State Capitol, twenty students participated in learning the works and laws of the Unicameral. The Unicameral Legislature of Nebraska is non-partisan and acted in the same way during the Unicameral Youth Conference.

Famous quotes containing the words youth and/or conference:

    “You are old, Father William,” the young man cried,
    “And life must be hastening away;
    You are cheerful, and love to converse upon death:
    Now tell me the reason, I pray.”

    “I am cheerful, young man,” Father William replied;
    “Let the cause thy attention engage;
    In the days of my youth I remembered my God,
    And He hath not forgotten my age.”
    Robert Southey (1774–1843)

    Politics is still the man’s game. The women are allowed to do the chores, the dirty work, and now and then—but only occasionally—one is present at some secret conference or other. But it’s not the rule. They can go out and get the vote, if they can and will; they can collect money, they can be grateful for being permitted to work. But that is all.
    Mary Roberts Rinehart (1876–1958)
