The Unduk Ngadau beauty contest was to serve as a memorial to Huminodun, the sacrificed daughter of the Kadazandusun spirits Kinorohingan and Suminundu. It is believed that she taught the priestesses known locally as Bobohizan their ritual mantras which exist today.
