Unanderra Railway Station - Countrylink Services

Countrylink Services

During trackwork on the main south line, mainly between Picton Station and Campbelltown Station, Countrylink used to divert it's southern services from Melbourne, Canberra and Griffith via Unanderra to Moss Vale rather than substituting the service by bus for some or part of the journey. Countrylink's XPT services to Melbourne did not stop at any Illawarra or South Coast stations however some Xplorer services, mainly from Canberra stopped at Unnaderra and Wollongong. On rare occasions where there has been a slow freight train or Intercity train ahead of it the XPTs and Xplorer services have stopped at Thirroul Station for short periods of time to have enough track in front of it to climb the Illawarra Escarpment. However as of 2009, Countrylink Trains cease to use the Moss Vale-Unanderra line, although occasional XPT trains have come down the South Coast line such as the chartered "Starlight Express" charted by the starlight foundation to run down to Bomaderry and return to Central.
