Ultraviolet Light Therapy

Ultraviolet light therapy or ultraviolet Phototherapy is a form of treatment for certain skin disorders (including atopic skin disorder and vitiligo when used with psoralen to form the PUVA treatment) It consists mostly of the UVA band of ultraviolet light (fairly closely matching the ultraviolet output from the sun) and is usually delivered from a fluorescent bulb specially designed to output this frequency of ultraviolet.

This treatment is similar to the light from good quality solariums but differs from the mainly UVB ultraviolet band used to treat psoriasis.

Famous quotes containing the words ultraviolet, light and/or therapy:

As if the musicians did not so much play the little phrase as execute the rites required by it to appear, and they proceeded to the necessary incantations to obtain and prolong for a few instants the miracle of its evocation, Swann, who could no more see the phrase than if it belonged to an ultraviolet world ... Swann felt it as a presence, as a protective goddess and a confidante to his love, who to arrive to him ... had clothed the disguise of this sonorous appearance.
    Marcel Proust (1871–1922)

Heaven doth with us as we with torches do,
Not light them for themselves; for if our virtues
Did not go forth of us, ‘twere all alike
As if we had them not.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

Show business is the best possible therapy for remorse.
    Anita Loos (1888–1981)
