Ultraviolet Magazine is a literary and visual arts publication run by students at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The magazine publishes the poetry, prose, art, music and photography of Queen's students. The magazine publishes both print and online issues. In the past, Ultraviolet produced, along with its magazine, a CD compilation of Queen's campus bands and electroacoustic compositions of students. Ultraviolet alumni include the Juno-nominated Bedouin Soundclash, and writers Michael Crummey and Sherwin Tija. The magazine is entering its fifteenth year of publication and was started by media lawyer Melissa Kluger. The Ultraviolet team consists of two co-editors and an editorial board of approximately a dozen members. Weekly meetings at the Queen's Centre are used to plan fundraising events and critique submissions.
In 2010, Ultraviolet lost its funding. Since, the editors have been attempting to regain the opt-out fee. In 2011, the editors paid for a print issue largely from pocket. In 2012, Ultraviolet was forced to launch a strictly online format.
In the summer of 2012, Ultraviolet Magazine launched an official website and have begun creating their e-archive. The website can be found at http://www.ultravioletmag.org
Famous quotes containing the word magazine:
“I have been searching history to see if really a woman has any precedent to claim the right to have her rights, and I am compelled to say that we men are not so much ahead of women after all, and the only way we have kept our reputation up is by keeping her downand dont you forget it!”
—George E. Foster, U.S. womens magazine contributor. The Womans Magazine, pp. 38-41 (October 1886)
