The Ulster Medical Society was formed in Belfast in 1862 through the amalgamation of two older societies, the Belfast Medical Society which was founded in 1806, and the Belfast Clinical and Pathological Society which was founded in 1853. The UMS publishes a quarterly journal, Ulster Medical Journal, available free on the Society's internet site.
Famous quotes containing the words medical and/or society:
“Mark Twain didnt psychoanalyze Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer. Dickens didnt put Oliver Twist on the couch because he was hungry! Good copy comes out of people, Johnny, not out of a lot of explanatory medical terms.”
—Samuel Fuller (b. 1911)
“However diligent she may be, however dedicated, no mother can escape the larger influences of culture, biology, fate . . . until we can actually live in a society where mothers and children genuinely matter, ours is an essentially powerless responsibility. Mothers carry out most of the work orders, but most of the rules governing our lives are shaped by outside influences.”
—Mary Kay Blakely (20th century)
