Ulli Kampelmann - Early Life

Early Life

Ulli was the fifth of six children born to Wilhelm Heinrich Kampelmann and Elsa (née Pilz) in Halle (Saale), Sachsen Anhalt, East Germany.

Ulli appeared drawn to the arts from an early age. She displayed an interest in painting, and singing as she matured. When Ulli was eleven, her mother taught her how to make jewelry. Delighted with the beauty of all forms of jewelry, she made and sold bracelets and necklaces to her friends, family and teachers; earning her first income.

At the university in Halle, she mastered in art instruction. Not long after receiving her Master's degree she successfully escaped to West Berlin in the trunk of a friend’s car.

In Münster she studied sculpture and design and then opened her first studio in Stuttgart.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

Make-believe is the avenue to much of the young child’s early understanding. He sorts out impressions and tries out ideas that are foundational to his later realistic comprehension. This private world sometimes is a quiet, solitary
world. More often it is a noisy, busy, crowded place where language grows, and social skills develop, and where perseverance and attention-span expand.
James L. Hymes, Jr. (20th century)

So that the life of a writer, whatever he might fancy to the contrary, was not so much a state of composition, as a state of warfare; and his probation in it, precisely that of any other man militant upon earth,—both depending alike, not half so much upon the degrees of his WIT—as his RESISTANCE.
    Laurence Sterne (1713–1768)
