It was established in 1944 as the LDS Roosevelt Hospital, but when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints divested itself from its health care services in 1975, Duchesne County assumed ownership of the facility and it became known as Duchesne County Hospital. In 1993, the name changed to the current Uintah Basin Medical Center.

Famous quotes containing the words medical and/or center:

There may perhaps be a new generation of doctors horrified by lacerations, infections, women who have douched with kitchen cleanser. What an irony it would be if fanatics continued to kill and yet it was the apathy and silence of the medical profession that most wounded the ability to provide what is, after all, a medical procedure.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)

Against the Word the unstilled world still whirled
About the center of the silent Word.
