Like the Ubuntu computer operating system, the cola is named after the African philosophy of Ubuntu, which means humanity or fellow feeling; kindness, but otherwise there is no connection between the two. Moreover, although the Ubuntu OS is free and open source software, Ubuntu Cola should not be confused with "open source" colas such as OpenCola.
