Music

Uakti's principal composer, Marco Antônio Guimarães, took his classical training and uses in his compositions a style composed of complex rhythmical structures. Normally more than one time signature is used in the same composition, when free metre is not used. The melody and harmony are constructed so as to take advantage of the playing characteristics of the instruments. Uakti's style has been compared to the minimalism of Steve Reich and Philip Glass.

If, on one hand, their compositional techniques are modern, the sound of the instruments, on the other, lends a fine and unfamiliar aspect, to the group's music. This dichotomy is the secret of Uakti's sound.

Famous quotes containing the word music:

But listen, up the road, something gulps, the church spire
Opens its eight bells out, skulls’ mouths which will not tire
To tell how there is no music or movement which secures
Escape from the weekday time. Which deadens and endures.
    Louis MacNeice (1907–1963)

I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the back yard, but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.... Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.
    Harper Lee (b. 1926)

Who that has heard a strain of music feared then lest he should speak extravagantly any more forever?
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
