Ty Conklin - Personal

Personal

Ty is the son of Robert and Beth Conklin. In the view of fellow hockey player Jason Chimera: "I've met two normal goaltenders in all my years in hockey: Ty Conklin and Pascal Leclaire."

Although his Phoenix birth possibly makes him the first Arizona-born ice hockey player to play regularly in the NHL, Conklin spent his entire childhood in Alaska, attending West Anchorage High School until he was recruited by Shattuck-St. Mary's, a boarding school in Faribault, Minnesota. He is the first, and so far, only, Alaskan goaltender to reach the NHL. His younger brother Brice used him for shooting practice in their basement (a reversal of the usual positions for siblings) and went on to play defense for Shattuck and the Harvard University Crimson. His brother Sid also played at Shattuck as a goalie.

Conklin and his wife Erika have a young daughter and son, Maggie and Chase, and welcomed their second son, Nash, on November 15, 2008. They live in central Maine during the offseason.

Famous quotes containing the word personal:

The primary imperative for women who intend to assume a meaningful and decisive role in today’s social change is to begin to perceive themselves as having an identity and personal integrity that has as strong a claim for being preserved intact as that of any other individual or group.
    Margaret Adams (b. 1916)

Children’s lives are not shaped solely by their families or immediate surroundings at large. That is why we must avoid the false dichotomy that says only government or only family is responsible. . . . Personal values and national policies must both play a role.
    Hillary Rodham Clinton (20th century)

A man lives not only his personal life, as an individual, but also, consciously or unconsciously, the life of his epoch and his contemporaries.
    Thomas Mann (1875–1955)
