Treaty of Gyehae - Treaty Terms

Treaty Terms

This treaty was signed by Joseon dynasty king Sejong the Great and the Lord of Tsushima island in 1443, and the daimyo of the So clan of Tsushima island was granted rights to conduct trade with Korea in fifty ships per year, in exchange for sending tribute to Korea and aiding to stop any Japanese coastal pirate raids on Korean ports. This Treaty was discarded by the revolt of the Sanbo in 1510.

Famous quotes containing the words treaty and/or terms:

There is between sleep and us something like a pact, a treaty with no secret clauses, and according to this convention it is agreed that, far from being a dangerous, bewitching force, sleep will become domesticated and serve as an instrument of our power to act. We surrender to sleep, but in the way that the master entrusts himself to the slave who serves him.
    Maurice Blanchot (b. 1907)

Talleyrand said that two things are essential in life: to give good dinners and to keep on fair terms with women. As the years pass and fires cool, it can become unimportant to stay always on fair terms either with women or one’s fellows, but a wide and sensitive appreciation of fine flavours can still abide with us, to warm our hearts.
    M.F.K. Fisher (b. 1908)
