Transperth B-series Train - New Sets

New Sets

The Public Transport Authority ordered a second batch of B-series trains in 2006. This order included 45 new carriages (or 15 new 3-car sets) costing the WA Government A$160 million. The builders of the first batch, Bombardier/EDi Rail, were awarded the contract to build this second batch. To be delivered from 2009 to 2011, the order was made to accommodate greater capacity on the Joondalup and Mandurah lines. Like the older B-series sets, these trains will only be used on the Joondalup and Mandurah lines for regular timetabled services, and as a result displace the remaining A-series trains still operating on these lines. On 28 June 2009, the first of these were introduced into regular service, with some of the older A-series trains being transferred to the Fremantle-Midland line at the same time. These sets feature an upgraded communication system and brighter destination screens than the original B-series sets.

Funding for a third batch of 45 carriages was announced by the WA Government in the 2011-12 State Budget. An order of six additional carriages was confirmed in August 2012 to service the planned Aubin Grove station, and fifteen carriages were ordered in October 2012.

Famous quotes containing the word sets:

The poem has a social effect of some kind whether or not the poet wills it to have. It has kinetic force, it sets in motion ... [ellipsis in source] elements in the reader that would otherwise be stagnant.
    Denise Levertov (b. 1923)

Eddie did not die. He is no longer on Channel 4, and our sets are tuned to Channel 4; he’s on Channel 7, but he’s still broadcasting. Physical incarnation is highly overrated; it is one corner of universal possibility.
    Marianne Williamson (b. 1953)
