Translational Medicine

Translational medicine is a medical practice based on interventional epidemiology. It is regarded by its proponents as a natural progression from evidence-based medicine. It integrates research from the basic sciences, social sciences and political sciences with the aim of optimising patient care and preventive measures which may extend beyond healthcare services. In short, it is the process of turning appropriate biological discoveries into drugs and medical devices that can be used in the treatment of patients.

Famous quotes containing the word medicine:

For this invention of yours will produce forgetfulness in the minds of those who learn it, by causing them to neglect their memory, inasmuch as, from their confidence in writing, they will recollect by the external aid of foreign symbols, and not by the internal use of their own faculties. Your discovery, therefore, is a medicine not for memory, but for recollection,—for recalling to, not for keeping in mind.
    Plato (c. 427–347 B.C.)
