A trans man (also trans-man or transman) is a female-to-male (FTM) transgender or transsexual person. A trans man was assigned female at birth, but identifies as male.
The label of transgender male is not interchangeable with that of transsexual male although the two are often combined or mistaken for the same thing. The difference is that while transgender males identify with the male gender identity, transsexual males may intend to undergo physical changes to align their body with their gender identity. A transgender male is someone whose gender identity is male, but who does not necessarily change himself physically.
In the United States, the ratio of trans men within the general population is unclear, but estimates range between 1:2000 and 1:100,000.

Famous quotes containing the word man:
“1st Murderer. Wheres thy conscience now?...
2nd Murderer. Ill not meddle with it. It makes a man a coward.... It fills a man full of obstacles. It made me once restore a purse of gold that by chance I found. It beggars any man that keeps it. It is turned out of towns and cities for a dangerous thing, and every man that means to live well endeavors to trust to himself and live without it.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
