Netherlands East Indies (nowadays Indonesia)
In the capital Batavia in the former Dutch colony Netherlands East Indies (nowadays Jakarta in Indonesia) a horse tram service started in 1869. A steam tram ran from 1881. Electrification followed in 1897. All trams are discontinued in the 1950s due to lack of electricity.
