“Maybe in the ‘90s or possibly in the next century people will look upon the ‘80s as the age of masturbation, when it was taken to the limit; that might be all that’s going on right now in a big way.”

—Joan Sheingold Ditzion, Dennie, and Palmer Wolf. Ourselves and Our Children, by Boston Women’s Health Book Collective, ch. 2 (1978)
“Sweet Thames, run softly, till I end my song.
The river bears no empty bottles, sandwich papers,
Silk handkerchiefs, cardboard boxes, cigarette ends
Or other testimony of summer nights. The nymphs are departed.”
—T.S. (Thomas Stearns)
