Tonopah Army Air Field - Current Use

Current Use

Today the airfield serves the town of Tonopah and Nye County as a municipal airport. Due to its proximity to the Tonopah Test Range, it occasionally has Air Force or Department of Energy traffic. Two of the runways are still in use and maintained by Nye County.

Today, all that remains of what was one of the Army Air Force's largest World War II training bases are three hangars in various stages of disrepair, as are the foundations of many former buildings and a few streets.

Famous quotes containing the word current:

I perceived that to express those impressions, to write that essential book, which is the only true one, a great writer does not, in the current meaning of the word, invent it, but, since it exists already in each one of us, interprets it. The duty and the task of a writer are those of an interpreter.
    Marcel Proust (1871–1922)

It is not however, adulthood itself, but parenthood that forms the glass shroud of memory. For there is an interesting quirk in the memory of women. At 30, women see their adolescence quite clearly. At 30 a woman’s adolescence remains a facet fitting into her current self.... At 40, however, memories of adolescence are blurred. Women of this age look much more to their earlier childhood for memories of themselves and of their mothers. This links up to her typical parenting phase.
    Terri Apter (20th century)
