He is the older brother of Felix Kroos who is a Midfielder for Werder Bremen. His father Roland works as A-Youth (U-19) coach for Hansa Rostock. During his youth, he was not the most outstanding student and spent a lot of time practicing football. Kroos was missing up to 40 days during the school year. However, he was well-behaved in class and well liked among his peers at school.
