He has been widely successful as a senior golfer, and on January 6, 2007 was inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame. Among his achievements, he has four times been named the Georgia Senior Champion (1968, 1969, 1986) and twice International Senior Champion.(1974, 1980). Forkner, who competed in the 1980 and 1981 U.S. Senior Opens, once placed second there, which in mind of the competition he described to the Augusta Chronicle in 2007 as "probably the single best thing I ever did."

Famous quotes containing the word golf:

    emerald as heavy
    as a golf course, ruby as dark

    diamond as white as sun
    on the sea ...

    And the wind shall say “Here were decent godless people;
    Their only monument the asphalt road
    And a thousand lost golf balls.”
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

    Did I make you go insane?
    Did I turn up your earphone and let a siren drive through?
    Did I open the door for the mustached psychiatrist
    who dragged you out like a golf cart?
    Did I make you go insane?
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
