Tito Okello - Final Years

Final Years

Okello remained in exile until 1993, when he was granted amnesty by President Museveni and returned to Kampala. He died three years later, of an undisclosed illness, on 3 June 1996. He was 82 years old at the time of his death. His remains were buried at his ancestral home in Kitgum District. In January 2010, Okello was posthumously awarded the Kagera National Medal of Honor for fighting against the Idi Amin dictatorship in the 1970s.

Famous quotes containing the words final and/or years:

A poem is like a person. Though it has a family tree, it is important not because of its ancestors but because of its individuality. The poem, like any human being, is something more than its most complete analysis. Like any human being, it gives a sense of unified individuality which no summary of its qualities can reproduce; and at the same time a sense of variety which is beyond satisfactory final analysis.
    Donald Stauffer (b. 1930)

Listen, Ange, I’ve been looking for a girl every Saturday night of my life. I’m 34 years old, I’m just tired that’s all.
    Paddy Chayefsky (1923–1981)
