  • August–September: World War II allies Britain and Soviet Union invade Iran to secure railway to supply Soviet Union. They depose Reza Shah who they consider too sympathetic to the Axis powers, and they exile him to South Africa. His son Muhammad Reza becomes the new Pahlavi Shah of Iran.
