Setting Priorities and Goals
Time management strategies are often associated with the recommendation to set personal goals. The literature stresses themes such as -
- "Work in Priority Order" - set goals and prioritize
- "Set gravitational goals" - that attract actions automatically
These goals are recorded and may be broken down into a project, an action plan, or a simple task list. For individual tasks or for goals, an importance rating may be established, deadlines may be set, and priorities assigned. This process results in a plan with a task list or a schedule or calendar of activities. Authors may recommend a daily, weekly, monthly or other planning periods associated with different scope of planning or review. This is done in various ways, as follows.

Famous quotes containing the words setting, priorities and/or goals:
“When I consider the clouds stretched in stupendous masses across the sky, frowning with darkness or glowing with downy light, or gilded with the rays of the setting sun, like the battlements of a city in the heavens, their grandeur appears thrown away on the meanness of my employment; the drapery is altogether too rich for such poor acting. I am hardly worthy to be a suburban dweller outside those walls.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Work though we must, our jobs do not automatically determine our priorities concerning our marriages, our children, our social life, or even our health. Its still life, constrained as it may be by limited disposable income or leisure time, and were still responsible for making it something we enjoy or endure.”
—Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)
“Despicable means used to achieve laudable goals renders the goals themselves despicable.”
—Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (18601904)
