Famous quotes containing the words thousand, pillar and/or temple:
“Philosophy ... does not talk, but write, or, when it comes personally before an audience, lecture or read; and therefore it must be read to-morrow, or a thousand years hence. But the talker must naturally be attended to at once; he does not talk on without an audience; the winds do not long bear the sound of his voice.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Fames pillar here, at last, we set,
Out-during marble, brass, or jet,”
—Robert Herrick (15911674)
“One sorry fret,
An anvill Sparke, rose higher,
And in thy Temple falling, almost set
The house on fire.
Such fireballs dropping in the Temple Flame
Burns up the building: Lord, forbid the same.”
—Edward Taylor (16451729)
