Critical Reception
"Thinking of You" received mixed to positive reviews from most music critics. In his review of the album, Jon Caramanica of The New York Times gave the song a positive review; complimenting its production while saying the song was "gently and compellingly angry." Nicole Frehsee wrote for Rolling Stone that "'Thinking of You,' which compares an unrequited lover to 'an Indian summer in the middle of winter,' is generic Dawson's Creek schlock."

Famous quotes containing the words critical and/or reception:
“I know that I will always be expected to have extra insight into black textsespecially texts by black women. A working-class Jewish woman from Brooklyn could become an expert on Shakespeare or Baudelaire, my students seemed to believe, if she mastered the language, the texts, and the critical literature. But they would not grant that a middle-class white man could ever be a trusted authority on Toni Morrison.”
—Claire Oberon Garcia, African American scholar and educator. Chronicle of Higher Education, p. B2 (July 27, 1994)
“Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybodys face but their own; which is the chief reason for that kind of reception it meets in the world, and that so very few are offended with it.”
—Jonathan Swift (16671745)
