History
Originally, Tambon Samnak Takhrau was part of Tambon Pan Chana, Dan Khun Thot district. On April 1 1995 the Interior Ministry separated Tambon Samnak Takhrau, Nong Waeng and Bueng Prue to create the new minor district (King Amphoe) Samnak Takhrau.
Luang Phau Khun, a monk of Wat Ban Rai, proposed to change the name to Theparak. As the minor district is located near the districts Thep Sathit and Si Thep. As both districts contain the word Thep meaning angel (Deva), the minor district is thus protected by angels. The government followed this suggestion and renamed to minor district to Theparak.
Following a decision of the Thai government on May 15 2007, all of the 81 minor districts were to be upgraded to full districts. With the publishing in the Royal Gazette on August 24 the upgrade became official.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“A poets object is not to tell what actually happened but what could or would happen either probably or inevitably.... For this reason poetry is something more scientific and serious than history, because poetry tends to give general truths while history gives particular facts.”
—Aristotle (384323 B.C.)
“... that there is no other way,
That the history of creation proceeds according to
Stringent laws, and that things
Do get done in this way, but never the things
We set out to accomplish and wanted so desperately
To see come into being.”
—John Ashbery (b. 1927)
