The Winston Giles Orchestra

The Winston Giles Orchestra is a popular Australian band, formed in 2004 by successful Australian Singer/ Songwriter Winston Giles (Atari Baby, Floor 13). The Winston Giles Orchestra tour extensively throughout Australia, the US and Europe and have released two distinct, critically acclaimed albums with a third expected in mid-2007.

Currently, the Winston Giles Orchestra comprises Winston Giles (Vocals / Guitars / Piano /beats / samples), Dorian West (Trumpet / Flugelhorn / Keyboards ). They also have guest musicians, who make guest appearances with the band on a recurring basis. A strong, recurrent theme of their music is a rejection of war, intolerance and an enthusiastic embrace of love, happiness, cultural diversity and a simple, carefree life.

Although The Winston Giles Orchestra take an indie rock/post-punk approach to rock music, the band is known for their lush, multi-layered, psychedelic arrangements, spacey lyrics and bizarre song and album titles. They are also acclaimed for their elaborate live shows featuring video projections, complex stage light configurations, acrobatic hula hoop and dancers. In 2004, Inpress magazine named The Winston Giles Orchestra one of the "50 Bands to See Before You Die".

Famous quotes containing the words giles and/or orchestra:

I still feel just as I told you, that I shall come safely out of this war. I felt so the other day when danger was near. I certainly enjoyed the excitement of fighting our way out of Giles to the Narrows as much as any excitement I ever experienced. I had a good deal of anxiety the first hour or two on account of my command, but not a particle on my own account. After that, and after I saw that we were getting on well, it was really jolly. We all joked and laughed and cheered constantly.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

“Pop” Wyman ruled here with a firm but gentle hand; no drunken man was ever served at the bar; no married man was allowed to play at the tables; across the face of the large clock was written “Please Don’t Swear,” and over the orchestra appeared the gentle admonition, “Don’t Shoot the Pianist—He’s Doing His Damndest.”
