Famous quotes containing the words foreign policy, foreign, policy and/or response:
“We are apt to say that a foreign policy is successful only when the country, or at any rate the governing class, is united behind it. In reality, every line of policy is repudiated by a section, often by an influential section, of the country concerned. A foreign minister who waited until everyone agreed with him would have no foreign policy at all.”
—A.J.P. (Alan John Percivale)
“There is a close tie of affection between sovereigns and their subjects; and as chaste wives should have no eyes but for their husbands, so faithful liegemen should keep their regards at home and not look after foreign crowns. For my part I like not for my sheep to wear a strangers mark nor to dance after a foreigners whistle.”
—Elizabeth I (15331603)
“Men must learn now with pity to dispense,
For policy sits above conscience.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“Ill never forget my fathers response when I told him I wanted to be a lawyer. He said, If you do this, no man will ever want you.”
—Cassandra Dunn (b. c. 1931)
