The Register

The Register ("El Reg" or "The Reg" to its staff and readers) is a British technology news and opinion website. It was founded and based in London by John Lettice and Mike Magee in 1994 as a newsletter called "Chip Connection", initially as an email service. Mike Magee left The Register in 2001 to start The Inquirer, and later the IT Examiner and then TechEye. In 1998 The Register became a daily online news source and still is today, and in 2012 is headquartered in both London and San Francisco. The Register explains this is because visitor numbers have expanded to 500,000 regular viewers in Canada and Australia, 1.5 million in the UK, and 3 million in the US.
