The Monks of Thelema

The Monks of Thelema was a novel by Walter Besant and James Rice. It was published in 1878 by Chatto & Windus, London.

This novel includes descriptions of a sort of "church of Thelema", similar to the Abbey of Thélème, described in Rabelais's Gargantua. Aleister Crowley later founded a religion with this name (see Thelema, Abbey of Thelema).

Famous quotes containing the word monks:

If you understand why a monkey in a family is always mocked and harassed, you understand why monks are rejected by all—both old and young.
    François Rabelais (1494–1553)
