The Modern Lovers - Influence

Influence

The band was highly influential on the then-burgeoning punk rock and later New Wave and indie musical styles. John Cale, Iggy Pop and David Bowie have all covered "Pablo Picasso". Seminal punk group the Sex Pistols covered "Roadrunner" on The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. Additional covers of "Roadrunner" include one by labelmates The Greg Kihn Band. Post-punk act Siouxsie and the Banshees revisited "She Cracked" on Downside Up, as did Seaweed on the John Peel Sub-Pop Sessions album, and Joan Jett sang "Roadrunner" on her cover album, The Hit List. In 2010 a live cover by Titus Andronicus of "Roadrunner" was released on the fan compilation Feats of Strength. The group was also mentioned in the LCD Soundsystem track "Losing My Edge."

Famous quotes containing the word influence:

Life is made too easy. Mankind’s moral fibre is giving way under the softening influence of luxury.
    Johan Huizinga (1872–1945)

For character too is a process and an unfolding ... among our valued friends is there not someone or other who is a little too self confident and disdainful; whose distinguished mind is a little spotted with commonness; who is a little pinched here and protruberent there with native prejudices; or whose better energies are liable to lapse down the wrong channel under the influence of transient solicitations?
George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)

This declared indifference, but as I must think, covert real zeal for the spread of slavery, I can not but hate. I hate it because of the monstrous injustice of slavery itself. I hate it because it deprives our republican example of its just influence in the world ... and especially because it forces so many really good men amongst ourselves into an open war with the very fundamental principles of civil liberty.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)
