Other Personal Traits
The Premacks stated that the chimpanzees had specific traits, such as favorite trainers, and that some chimpanzees, such as Gussie, seemed more fearful than the others. As previously noted, the Premacks noticed that Jessie seemed to be the brightest of the nine chimpanzee subjects. For example, she did not hesitate to unmask a masked researcher, which none of the other chimpanzees attempted. It is clear that the Premacks attempted to provide a humane, supportive environment for the chimpanzees.
Vauclair notes that chimpanzees will become distressed in the absence of their favorite companion.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or traits:
“Your children dont have equal talents now and they wont have equal opportunities later in life. You may be able to divide resources equally in childhood, but your best efforts wont succeed in shielding them from personal or physical crises. . . . Your heart will be broken a thousand times if you really expect to equalize your childrens happiness by striving to love them equally.”
—Marianne E. Neifert (20th century)
“A personality is an indefinite quantum of traits which is subject to constant flux, change, and growth from the birth of the individual in the world to his death. A character, on the other hand, is a fixed and definite quantum of traits which, though it may be interpreted with slight differences from age to age and actor to actor, is nevertheless in its essentials forever fixed.”
—Hubert C. Heffner (19011985)
