From 1991 to 2008 there were 11 issues per year (including an extended "anniversary double issue" every October). In January 2009, publisher-editor Gordon Van Gelder announced that as of April the magazine would reduce postage costs by switching to bimonthly publication of double issues, with a 10% net loss in content. "In the end, we make about the same money from an electronic subscription as from a print sub," wrote Van Gelder on March 7, 2009.
