The History Man - Film, TV or Theatrical Adaptations

Film, TV or Theatrical Adaptations

The History Man was broadcast by the BBC as a four-part serial in 1981. It starred Antony Sher as Howard Kirk and Geraldine James as his wife Barbara; Isla Blair played Flora Beniform. Exteriors for the series were shot at the University of Lancaster and in Bristol. It has long been rumoured that the events of the book were based in part on activities at the University of Lancaster, although the University of Sussex has also been cited as a possible basis, as well as the University of East Anglia, where Bradbury spent most of his academic career.

At the end there is a caption stating that in the 1979 General Election Howard Kirk voted Conservative.

Famous quotes containing the word theatrical:

From now on, I think it is safe to predict, neither the Democratic nor the Republican Party will ever nominate for President a candidate without good looks, stage presence, theatrical delivery, and a sense of timing.
    James Thurber (1894–1961)
