The Grey King (1975) is a contemporary fantasy novel written for children by English author Susan Cooper. It is the fourth of five books in her Arthurian fantasy series, The Dark is Rising. Welsh folklore provides important background, albeit freely adapted or re-invented by the author.
The Grey King won the annual Newbery Medal recognizing the year's "most distinguished contribution to American children's literature".
