The Fury of The Aquabats! - Overview

Overview

Following their entirely ska-based debut album, The Fury of The Aquabats! found the band starting to expand their sound into newer territories which they would continue to develope on subsequent releases. While still generally a ska album, The Fury features noticeably emphasized elements of surf rock and punk rock than its predecessor, as well as including instrumental tracks, parodies of tango ("Attacked By Snakes!") and ragtime music ("Lobster Bucket!"), and making extensive use of genre-unconventional instruments such as electric sitars, clarinets, banjos and even hand music.

The Fury was the first Aquabats album to feature longtime keyboardist and saxophonist James Briggs (Jaime the Robot, later Jimmy the Robot) and the only album to feature drummer Travis Barker (The Baron von Tito), who would depart from the band the following year to pursue an offer to join the band Blink-182. Excluding a previous recording on The Return, this is also the only Aquabats album to include a cover song, "Idiot Box!", originally performed by GOGO13.
