The Carbon Neutral Company - Projects and Standards

Projects and Standards

Over the last decade the company has worked with 200 projects in 24 countries. It contracted approximately 2 million tonnes of CO2e in 2009. To ensure quality in its operations, the company developed a global standard for carbon neutral certification: The Carbon Neutral Protocol which lays out the requirements a business must meet in order for it, its services or its products to be certified CarbonNeutral.

According to this protocol, all projects must be validated and verified by independent third parties such as the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS), Gold Standard and Climate Action Reserve (CAR). The company’s operations are audited by PwC to ensure proper retiring of credits and no double counting.

Famous quotes containing the words projects and/or standards:

But look what we have built ... low-income projects that become worse centers of delinquency, vandalism and general social hopelessness than the slums they were supposed to replace.... Cultural centers that are unable to support a good bookstore. Civic centers that are avoided by everyone but bums.... Promenades that go from no place to nowhere and have no promenaders. Expressways that eviscerate great cities. This is not the rebuilding of cities. This is the sacking of cities.
    Jane Jacobs (b. 1916)

Chief among our gains must be reckoned this possibility of choice, the recognition of many possible ways of life, where other civilizations have recognized only one. Where other civilizations give a satisfactory outlet to only one temperamental type, be he mystic or soldier, business man or artist, a civilization in which there are many standards offers a possibility of satisfactory adjustment to individuals of many different temperamental types, of diverse gifts and varying interests.
    Margaret Mead (1901–1978)
