Project Goals
The goal of the pilot project was to demonstrate that advanced genomic technologies could be utilized by a team of scientists from various institutions to generate statistically and biologically significant conclusions from the diverse genomic data set generated by the Project. The Cancer Genome Atlas Network claim that they "can rapidly expand knowledge of the molecular basis of cancer.. Two tumor types were explored during the pilot phase, Glioblastoma Multiforma (GBM) and Cystadenocarcinoma of the Ovary. The goal of TCGA Phase II is to expand the success experienced in the pilot project to more cancer types, providing a large, statistically significant data set for further discovery. More information about TCGA is available at the TCGA home page (http://cancergenome.nih.gov/) and TCGA data can be accessed through the TCGA Data Portal (http://tcga-data.nci.nih.gov/tcga/).

Famous quotes containing the words project and/or goals:
“In 1862 the congregation of the church forwarded the church bell to General Beauregard to be melted into cannon, hoping that its gentle tones, that have so often called us to the House of God, may be transmuted into wars resounding rhyme to repel the ruthless invader from the beautiful land God, in his goodness, has given us.”
—Federal Writers Project Of The Wor, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“Artists have a double relationship towards nature: they are her master and her slave at the same time. They are her slave in so far as they must work with means of this world so as to be understood; her master in so far as they subject these means to their higher goals and make them subservient to them.”
—Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (17491832)
