The Blue Cross - Proposed Closure of Two Animal Centres

Proposed Closure of Two Animal Centres

On 26 January 2010, Blue Cross announced the proposed closure of the two animal adoption centres (Felixstowe and Northiam (East Sussex)), both of which had been in existence for over 50 years. Final decisions on both sites were announced on 4 May 2010. The Felixstowe centre was saved after an extensive publicity campaign by locals.

Famous quotes containing the words proposed, animal and/or centres:

We have no one to blame for the Kennedys but ourselves. We took the Kennedys to heart of our own accord. And it is my opinion that we did it not because we respected them or thought what they proposed was good, but because they were pretty. We, the electorate, were smitten by this handsome, vivacious family.... We wanted to hug their golden tousled heads to our dumpy breasts.
    —P.J. (Patrick Jake)

Most men would feel shame if caught preparing with their own hands precisely such a dinner, whether of animal or vegetable food, as is every day prepared for them by others. Yet till this is otherwise we are not civilized, and, if gentlemen and ladies, are not true men and women. This certainly suggests what change is to be made.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

I perceive that in these woods the earliest settlements are, for various reasons, clustering about the lakes, but partly, I think, for the sake of the neighborhood as the oldest clearings. They are forest schools already established,—great centres of light.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
