Famous quotes containing the words bitter, tears and/or von:

    Women, despite the fact that nine out of ten of them go through life with a death-bed air either of snatching-the-last-moment or with martyr-resignation, do not die tomorrow—or the next day. They have to live on to any one of many bitter ends.
    Zelda Fitzgerald (1900–1948)

    They borrow words for thoughts they cannot feel,
    That with a seeming heart their tongue may speak;
    And in their show of life more dead they live
    Than those that to the earth with many tears they give.
    Jones Very (1831–1880)

    How can one learn to know oneself? Never by introspection, rather by action. Try to do your duty, and you will know right away what you are like.
    —Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (1749–1832)
