The Bishop Stopford's School

Bishop Stopford's School, commonly known as Bishop Stopford's, Bishop's at Enfield or (locally) just Bishop's, is a voluntary aided co-educational grammar school specialising in mathematics and computing, and engineering, with a sixth form. The school has strong links with the Church of England. Worship is in a relatively High Church Anglo-Catholic tradition using the Book of Common Prayer and the King James Bible, although modern translations are mandated for study. It is in Brick Lane, Enfield, near Enfield Lock, Greater London, England.

Famous quotes containing the words bishop and/or school:

How can a bishop marry? How can he flirt? The most he can say is “I will see you in the vestry after service.”
    Sydney Smith (1771–1845)

I’m not making light of prayers here, but of so-called school prayer, which bears as much resemblance to real spiritual experience as that freeze-dried astronaut food bears to a nice standing rib roast. From what I remember of praying in school, it was almost an insult to God, a rote exercise in moving your mouth while daydreaming or checking out the cutest boy in the seventh grade that was a far, far cry from soul-searching.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
