Reception
The film received negative reviews from critics, including a scathing review by Susan Wloszczyna of USA Today. The irony is not lost, as the character of Boris Pochenko lambasts the negative coverage of his country by the American press (in particular USA Today) in the film.
“ | Listening to Fran Drescher's nasal squawk for an entire movie is the price you'll pay to see The Beautician and the Beast. Imagine having your ear canal scoured with Brillo. Only more abrasive. | ” |
—Susan Wloszczyna, USA Today |
Roger Ebert wrote that "The Beautician and the Beast made me laugh, but each laugh was an island, entire onto itself. They didn't tie together into anything very interesting."
The Beautician and the Beast currently holds a 17% "rotten" rating according to Rotten Tomatoes. Fran Drescher was nominated for a Razzie Award as Worst Actress for her performance in the film.

Famous quotes containing the word reception:
“I gave a speech in Omaha. After the speech I went to a reception elsewhere in town. A sweet old lady came up to me, put her gloved hand in mine, and said, I hear you spoke here tonight. Oh, it was nothing, I replied modestly. Yes, the little old lady nodded, thats what I heard.”
—Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
“Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybodys face but their own; which is the chief reason for that kind of reception it meets in the world, and that so very few are offended with it.”
—Jonathan Swift (16671745)
“To aim to convert a man by miracles is a profanation of the soul. A true conversion, a true Christ, is now, as always, to be made by the reception of beautiful sentiments.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
