The Actors' Gang - Community Outreach

Community Outreach

The Actors Gang has a number of outreach programs that run throughout the year. They work directly with youth struggling in politically and economically disenfranchised communities to develop social skills, self-esteem, wellness, peer support, non-violent expression of anger and tension through teaching their unique style of acting.

Every year the Actors Gang conducts at least three 8-week workshops in California prisons. Their work endeavors to unlock human potential in the interest of effective rehabilitation. It is one of the only remaining arts programs inside California's correctional system. The Prison Project fosters tolerance and non-violent expression while significantly reducing recidivism rates.

Famous quotes containing the word community:

The people needed to be rehoused, but I feel disgusted and depressed when I see how they have done it. It did not suit the planners to think how they might deal with the community, or the individuals that made up the community. All they could think was, “Sweep it away!” The bureaucrats put their heads together, and if anyone had told them, “A community is people,” they would not have known what they were on about.
