Texas Hotel Records was an independent record label based in Santa Monica, California, which released records by singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt, Henry Rollins and the Rollins Band from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. The label started as a record store and morphed into a record label.
The label was voted Hot Record Label of the year by Rolling Stone Magazine in 1989 when it was pursuing the project of releasing a Michael Stipe solo album and when there as a huge buzz around Texas Hotel band Poi Dog Pondering. The Stipe project never took shape and Poi Dog Pondering eventually signed to Columbia Records but never made it big. Texas Hotel Records closed in 1996.
Famous quotes containing the words texas, hotel and/or records:
“I not only rejoice, but congratulate my beloved country Texas is reannexed, and the safety, prosperity, and the greatest interest of the whole Union is secured by this ... great and important national act.”

“Consider his life which was valueless
In terms of employment, hotel ledgers, news files.
Consider. One bullet in ten thousand kills a man.
Ask. Was so much expenditure justified
On the death of one so young and so silly
Lying under the olive tree, O world, O death?”
—Stephen Spender (19091995)
“Although crowds gathered once if she but showed her face,
And even old mens eyes grew dim, this hand alone,
Like some last courtier at a gypsy camping-place
Babbling of fallen majesty, records whats gone.”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
