Test Match Special - Charity

Charity

There is a tradition that every Saturday of a home Test match the commentators wear a Primary Club tie. Membership in the Primary Club is available to anybody who has been out first ball (a "golden duck") in any form of cricket. Proceeds are donated to a charity for blind and partially sighted cricketers.

Famous quotes containing the word charity:

    These days are dangerous;
    Virtue is choked with foul ambition,
    And charity chased hence by rancor’s hand.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    The appalling thing is the degree of charity women are capable of. You see it all the time ... love lavished on absolute fools. Love’s a charity ward, you know.
    Lawrence Durrell (1912–1990)

    When a sparrow sips in the river, the water doesn’t recede. Giving charity does not deplete wealth. Saint Kabir says so.
    Punjabi proverb, trans. by Gurinder Singh Mann.
