Terada Kiyoyuki - War Years

War Years

At age 21 in 1943, Terada joined the Imperial Japanese Army due to the ongoing war. In March 1944 he was ordered to the Japanese Airforce Academy and became an aircraft mechanic. From 1944 to 1945 he worked in aircraft maintenance at Kumamoto Airfield. It was here where he learned that the war had ended and two days later on August 17, he returned home to Nagasaki.

Famous quotes containing the words war and/or years:

Either war is obsolete or men are.
    R. Buckminster Fuller (1895–1983)

Not too many years ago, a child’s experience was limited by how far he or she could ride a bicycle or by the physical boundaries that parents set. Today ... the real boundaries of a child’s life are set more by the number of available cable channels and videotapes, by the simulated reality of videogames, by the number of megabytes of memory in the home computer. Now kids can go anywhere, as long as they stay inside the electronic bubble.
    Richard Louv (20th century)
