Tennis Elbow - Treatment

Treatment

Evidence for the treatment of lateral epicondylitis before 2010 was poor. There were clinical trials addressing many proposed treatments, but the quality of the trials were poor.

In 2009, however, Timothy F. Tyler, MSPT, ATC, Gregory C. Thomas, DPT, CSCS, Stephen J. Nicholas, MD, Malachy P. McHugh, PhD of PRO Sports Physical Therapy, Scarsdale, NY (Timothy F. Tyler is also affiliated with the Nicholas Institute for Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma (NISMAT), New York, NY), undertook a study that looked at using eccentric excercise with a rubber bar. The trial was stopped after 8 weeks because the improvement using the bar for therapy was so significant.

In some cases, severity of tennis elbow symptoms mend without any treatment within six to twenty-four months. However, if tennis elbow is left untreated, it can lead to chronic pain that degrades quality of daily living.

Famous quotes containing the word treatment:

I will use treatment to help the sick according to my ability and judgment, but never with a view to injury and wrongdoing. Neither will I administer a poison to anybody when asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a course. Similarly, I will not give to a woman a pessary to cause abortion. I will keep pure and holy both my life and my art.
    Hippocrates (c. 460–c. 370 B.C.)

The motion picture made in Hollywood, if it is to create art at all, must do so within such strangling limitations of subject and treatment that it is a blind wonder it ever achieves any distinction beyond the purely mechanical slickness of a glass and chromium bathroom.
    Raymond Chandler (1888–1959)

To me, nothing can be more important than giving children books, It’s better to be giving books to children than drug treatment to them when they’re 15 years old. Did it ever occur to anyone that if you put nice libraries in public schools you wouldn’t have to put them in prisons?
    Fran Lebowitz (20th century)
