Ten Mile Tide

Ten Mile Tide is an independent band originating in San Francisco. They describe their sound as "feel-good acoustic rock, foot-stomping folk, and beer-drenched bluegrass." Twin brothers Jason (lead electric guitar and vocals) and Justin (rhythm acoustic guitar and vocals) Munning started the band in 1999 at Stanford University along with Steve Kessler (fiddle), Marc Mazzoni (lead vocals, keyboards), Bryan Jayne (bass, vocals), and Brooks Dubose (drums, vocals). Jeff Clemetson (bass), John Morales (drums), Kristen Kessler (sound) and Matt Mitchell (keyboard) joined on to form the core of the band which toured in different formats full-time for over 6 years.

The band got a big break and national coverage when they supported the file sharing system Kazaa. On February 21 the band was featured on CNN for their approval of the program. To their benefit users downloaded more than 8.6 million of their songs. In fact this was part of their increasing popularity that allowed them to quit their day jobs and go on tour around the United States. The band decided to disassociate themselves from Kazaa once lawsuits ensued, but they maintained their disdain for the music industry's opposition to file sharing: "We don’t want to be a part of an industry that operates on brute force and unethical lawsuits. We have posted all of the MP3s from our just-released album for free on our website and we are encouraging other bands we know to do something similar,” says Munning in an article posted by Newswire.

The band has shared the stage with multiple bands including: Template:Sons of Ralph, The Wailers, Dispatch, moe., the Gourds, Reel Big Fish, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Strangefolk, the Clumsy Lovers, The Slip, Jerry Joseph, Assembly of Dust, Luce, Graham Colton, and Hootie & the Blowfish. They’ve been to multiple music festivals, and received national and international media attention. They also play at many colleges.

In January 2006, Ten Mile Tide was nominated for a Jammy Award by Relix magazine. In April 2005, they were selected as the "New Groove of the Month" by Jambands.com.

Famous quotes containing the words ten, mile and/or tide:

We had an inspection today of the brigade. The Twenty-third was pronounced the crack regiment in appearance, ... [but] I could see only six to ten in a company of the old men. They all smiled as I rode by. But as I passed away I couldn’t help dropping a few natural tears. I felt as I did when I saw them mustered in at Camp Chase.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

We got our new rifled muskets this morning. They are mostly old muskets, many of them used, altered from flint-lock to percussion ... but the power of the gun was fully as great as represented. The ball at one-fourth mile passed through the largest rails; at one-half mile almost the same.... I think it an excellent arm.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

It is said that the British Empire is very large and respectable, and that the United States are a first-rate power. We do not believe that a tide rises and falls behind every man which can float the British Empire like a chip, if he should ever harbor it in his mind.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
